Precautions
Prostate cancer and BPH cause many of the same symptoms. An evaluation
should be done to rule out prostate cancer before tamsulosin therapy
is started.
People with low blood pressure upon arising (orthostatic hypotension)
should be cautious when taking tamsulosin, as it may exacerbate
their condition.
Tamsulosin can cause a painful, persistent erection of the penis
that is unrelieved by sexual activity (priapism.) This condition
can lead to damage or impotence if not treated quickly. If you suspect
that you have these symptoms, call your doctor or go to the emergency
room as soon as possible.
