Precautions
Atorvastatin should be used with caution by anyone
who consumes large quantities of alcohol.
People with a history of reduced kidney function
should only take low doses of this medication as prescribed.
Laboratory signs of harmful effects to the liver
occur for a small percentage of adults who take atorvastatin for
extended periods. When the medication is stopped, the laboratory
tests tend to slowly return to normal. It is important to have regular
laboratory tests done as referred by your doctor.
Atorvastatin should be used with caution by anyone
who has a history of liver diseases.
Muscle pain and cramps have occasionaly been associated
with the use of atorvastatin. Muscle weakness is occasionaly reported
with atorvastatin. You should report any unexplained muscle pains,
tenderness, or weakness to your doctor as this could be a sign of
a reaction to atorvastatin.
Atorvastatin should not be taken when pregnant.
If you become pregnant while taking this medication, stop taking
it immediately and speak with your doctor.
It is not known whether atorvastatin is passed
into breast milk. Women taking atorvastatin, therfor should not
nurse.
There is limited experience with the use of this
medication by children. Its safety and its effectiveness have not
been established for this age group.
